How does the design that you created demonstrate your knowledge of playing card design?
Using my knowledge of the typical card design utilizing themes of symmetry and monochromatic color schemes. I focused on similar themes and designs within my theme to stick to this company identity.
How would the rest of the deck look? What would you do for the other picture cards? Please describe in detail?
For the rest of the deck I would want to continue a similar theme of extraterrestrial without being overly cartoonish. I would like to utilize the spades or other suits to create imagery like the mar’s rover or stars. For the picture cards I would want the Jack to have an astronaut and the King to possible have a word repetition of “take me to your leader” since it’s the highest card in the deck.
How does your design demonstrate your knowledge of adobe illustrator?
My card design very clearly showcases my knowledge of illustrator through use of the rounded rectangle tool to get an initial border for my card. With changing opacities and layering colors with effects on top of one another I was able to get a similar color schemes across all three cards. I also utilized image trace and eyedropper to keep the cards consistent.
What do you feel was the most challenging part of this project and why?
The most challenging part for me personally was probably keeping my theme consistent, as I knew I didn’t want a cheesy alien cartoon for my cards. To get this super natural theme to show through it took numerous attempts. The Picture card also proved to be the hardest to keep this consistency of simplicity without it looking phony.
If you can change one requirements what would it be and why?
I would take away the fact that we were given our themes. I think if I could have made my cards based on a theme I was passionate about it may have led to a more creative output and therefore better cards. However, overall none of the other requirements proved to be too difficult to meet.
