What does it mean to create a font pairing?

A font pairing creates an aesthetic or theme by using typography. Creating a font pairing is choosing fonts that can work cohesively to relay a message.

What are the four assignments you chose to do? Write the name of the assignment and describe your design for each.

-Float like a Butterfly Sting Like a Bee- Straight and simple font for the words that create the saying with emphasis on Butterfly and Bee using a script and bold font and butterflies and bees on the letters

-These are the Good Ol’ days- A neutral background with a semi-messy scribbly font for the top and an arrow like font for the bottom with a polaroid graphic

-San Juan, Puerto Rico- A simple background of part of an old castle and the waterfront of Puerto Rico with a bolded font with a drop shadow and a sharp script font on the bottom

-26 Letters Endless Possibilities- A pastel theme with 26 in a circled font and then a straight font for letters and endless and a messy script for endless and a typewriter symbol

Which assignment would you say is your BEST font pairing and why?

26 Letters endless Possibilities- because the emphasis is really drawn to the 26 and endless and the circle on the numbers looks hand drawn and haphazard to give it a less clean, planned look.

Which assignment would you say is your Least Successful font pairing and why?

These are the Good Ol’ Days- although it comes across as “vintage” but I think the top font is difficult to read and doesn’t fit as nicely as the other

How would you describe the font pairing process? What makes a font pairing so difficult?

It was really interesting to see how much is actually put into the pairing of fonts and it was nice to see when the fonts fit well together. But it’s difficult to portray a theme at times because even if the fonts are cohesive they may not be giving off the desired theme.
